I was saddened to hear that Neal Brown passed away on Monday. Neal spent more than 40 years at ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ as a student, educator and director.

Neal earned his master’s degree in geophysics from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1966. After working at the Geophysical Institute, he spent 18 years directing the Poker Flat Research Range. He later led the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ-based ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Space Grant Program, which focuses on teaching, research and education in aerospace and earth sciences. Neal was awarded an honorary doctorate from ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ in 1997 for his contributions to science communications.

I’d like to extend my sincere condolences to Neal’s family, friends and colleagues.
