Rural ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Honors Institute is a competitive six-week college exploration program offered to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Native and rural ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ students with at least a 3.0 GPA following the completion of their junior or senior year of high school. During the program, approximately 50 students live on ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's Troth Yeddha' campus and earn 8-11 credits in courses that cover a wide array of subjects from foundational writing and math to industry exploration through process technology. In addition to RAHI Traditional and RAHI Research, a new RAHI Teach program gives students a pathway into teaching in rural ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ.
Weekends are spent adventuring in the interior and volunteering for local organizations.
The program is in its 38th year and has had nearly 1,800 participants. RAHI students average a 3.54 GPA while at RAHI and have gone on to earn over 1,120 degrees ranging from occupational endorsements to PhDs. Most are putting their education to work in ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ.
The experience, including room and board and travel to and from Fairbanks, is free. Find more information and the application form online.
