ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Day at the fair scheduled Aug. 4

The University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Fairbanks will host ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Day at the Tanana Valley State Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ employees, students, alumni and friends will receive $1 off admission by wearing ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ apparel or showing their PolarExpress card. The day will include ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ activities throughout the fairgrounds.

The University Fire Department’s fire truck, a hockey goal, a corn hole game and the giant inflatable Nanook will be set up in Totem Square from noon to 7 p.m. Nook, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s mascot, will be on site from 1-3 p.m.

Inside the Borealis Pavilion and outside in Totem Square, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ will have several special exhibits and activities:

• Pick up free ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ swag and learn about research and ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ classes.
• Explore marine science inside an inflatable science dome.
• Paddle through an interactive controller-free video game
• Learn about reindeer and muskoxen through interactive displays.
• Discover noncredit classes, lectures and workshops with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

In addition to special ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Day activities, ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ will have several booths in the Borealis Pavilion during the entire duration of the fair. Visitors can explore career-focused programs via the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Community and Technical College and find more than 125 free ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Cooperative Extension Service publications covering gardening, energy, food preparation and more. Cooperative Extension’s 4-H program will also have displays, shows and activities at multiple locations throughout the fair from opening day to the final day of the fair on Sunday, Aug. 9.
