Join Veronica Slajer, founder and president of North Star Group, for a conversation on leadership in northern development. With decades of experience in community engagement, economic development, and Arctic policy, Slajer has worked at the intersection of industry, government, and Indigenous communities to promote responsible resource development and collaboration. She will reflect on how inclusive leadership and partnership can strengthen resilience and opportunity across the North.

Veronica is a trained communities and social performance professional with more than 30 years of experience in economic development, community engagement, stakeholder relations, and matters affecting the Arctic, rural communities, and Indigenous peoples. Ms. Slajer holds a Masters of Rural Development degree with a concentration on community engagement in the mining and extractive industries. Ms. Slajer served on the U.S. Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), a federal advisory committee shaping a global standard to improve accountability for oil, gas, and mining revenues. A lifelong Ӱn, Ms. Slajer resides in Anchorage, Ӱ, and Washington, D.C.

Ӱ the Arctic Leadership Lecture Series

The Arctic Leadership Lecture Series offers a unique blend of academic rigor and public engagement. Offered as PS F493/693 Arctic Leadership: Theory and Praxis in the 21st Century, this course invites students and community members alike to explore critical aspects of leadership in the Arctic.

This virtual course is available for both undergraduate and graduate students. 

Guest lectures, which are open to the public, are held via Zoom every other Thursday from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM AKST. Classroom discussions continue from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM AKST for enrolled students only. Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend the guest lectures, but to participate in the full course experience, they must enroll as non-degree-seeking students.
