The Maintenance, Equipment Support and Fabrication department assists researchers with technical support, fabrication, and facilities and vehicles maintenance. Toolik employs three year-round skilled staff members: two MEF co-leads and one MEF technician. The team is complemented by seasonal technicians during the summer season. The Battelle-ARO team also has a year-round presence with maintenance staff working hand-in-hand with the Toolik team.

 The MEF team provides a variety of support services:

• maintaining and repairing our buildings and fleet of vehicles and equipment
• assisting researchers both at the station and in the field with technical support or with gear or equipment repairs,
• renewable energy systems for field equipment,
• field assistance,
• fabrication or design of (almost) anything researchers would need to do their work,
• and many others tasks to help keep projects and the station running smoothly.
