Campus communications

Communicating with staff, faculty and students

There's a lot of focus on telling the world about ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, but it's also important to talk to each other. Our employees are our best brand ambassadors, and good communication with them makes them even better.

The Cornerstone is ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s official email newsletter for employees and students and is the primary way the university will communicate with you. It covers university news and announcements, which are also posted on ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ's news and information site. Students receive Cornerstone weekly on Tuesdays. Employees receive it on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Cornerstone shares stories and information about:

  • Employee and student accomplishments
  • Important deadlines
  • University news
  • Campus safety, services and policies
  • New and retiring employees

If your unit has a public information officer, please work with them to submit items to Cornerstone. If your unit does not have a PIO, you can . Please note the following Cornerstone submission deadlines:

  • Tuesday student and employee Cornerstones – 5 p.m. Thursday
  • Thursday employee Cornerstone – 5 p.m. Monday

Please note that events are no longer included in Cornerstone, but instead will be sent to campus via the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ This Week email.

ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ This Week is emailed to employees and students on Monday morning and will include the following week's events. To submit items to ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ This Week, add your event to the offical ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ events calendar on .

We recommend you submit your event at least two weeks in advance. For more information about planning an event on campus, visit the events page.

The campuswide email lists for all faculty, staff and students are administered by University Relations. They are used sparingly and are reserved for announcements such as chancellor's communications, policy decisions, senior management appointments, benefits information, changes in major operating procedures, safety and holiday information, campuswide initiatives, and announcements that affect a large portion of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. All campuswide emails are posted in the archives of the listserv from which they originated.

  • Use active, rather than passive, voice.
  • Include rationale for changes.
  • Link to documents rather than sending attachments via email.
