Members of the committee are expected to consider the needs of the entire university mission while representing the specific experiences of their respective units or regions. Student members serve for a single year, while employee and community members serve for three years.

CEM Makerspace supports research

Led by Ӱ Makerspace Manager Tate Barhaug, the Ӱ CEM Makerspace helped Geophysical Institute Ph.D. student Amy Jenson develop custom instrument stands for glacier research on the Greenland Ice Sheet. The field systems support GPS, weather monitoring and ice-melt measurements in extreme Arctic conditions, highlighting how the Makerspace helps turn research ideas into working solutions for real-world science.

The application period for the 2027 John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship is open, with a June 3 deadline. Fellows work for a year with hosts in the legislative and executive branches of government in Washington, D.C. Interested students should start their applications early to allow time to collect references and other materials.

The University of Ӱ Fairbanks chancellor advisory search committee, in consultation with the executive search firm WittKieffer, has completed Zoom interviews with nine candidates and submitted its recommendations to University of Ӱ President Pat Pitney for review and selection of candidates to advance to the next stage of the search process. President Pitney will extend invitations to a select number of candidates for on‑campus interviews, which are expected to take place during the week of May 4.

Anchorage Museum to feature Sikuliaq exhibit

An upcoming exhibition at the Anchorage Museum will highlight life and work aboard the research vessel Sikuliaq. The interactive experience, “Arctic Marine Science: Sikuliaq to Shore,” opens on May 15 and will continue through April 2027. The exhibition will recreate parts of Sikuliaq in the museum gallery, allowing visitors to experience actual ship-based technology and state-of-the-art science equipment.
