The Delta Junction district serves an area centered on the junction of the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Highway and the Richardson Highway in Interior ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ. This area includes the communities of Delta Junction, Big Delta, Delta Clearwater, Fort Greely and Dry Creek. Approximately 5,100 people live in the area, about a quarter of whom are transient workers in the U.S. armed forces or seasonal workers.

Delta is one of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ’s agricultural centers, with oats, barley and hay as the major crops. Outreach includes programs in agriculture and horticulture; integrated pest management; and health, home and family development.

The 2026 ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Master Gardener Conference, hosted by the ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Cooperative Extension Service, will feature ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ experts covering topics from peonies to figs, native plants to poppies. Internationally renowned gardening expert Joe Lamp&/ces/districts/deltajunction/39;l, the Joe behind joegardener, is the keynote speaker.&/ces/districts/deltajunction/160;

The conference begins Friday, May 1 at 6 p.m. with registration at Harbor Mountain Brewing, 165 Shattuck Way, Juneau. Highlights from Lamp&/ces/districts/deltajunction/39;l&/ces/districts/deltajunction/39;s public television series "Growing a Greener World," will be shown.

Saturday, May 2, registration begins at 8 a.m. at Chapel by the Lake, 11042 Auke Lake Way, Juneau, with speakers throughout the day. For a full schedule, visit /ces/garden/mastergardeners/. Lamp&/ces/districts/deltajunction/39;l will be at the Juneau Community Garden, 5669 Montana Creek Road at 4 p.m., followed by a meet and greet at 6 p.m.

Join Master Gardeners May Buongiorne and Wendy Williams to learn how to plant and care for professional-grade hanging flower baskets. Learn how to plan a successful design, plant and care for flowers as they grow.

One 10&/ces/districts/deltajunction/8221; hanging basket, soil and five flower starts of your choice will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own - but if your basket or planter is larger than 10&/ces/districts/deltajunction/8221;, you may wish to purchase a few extra plants to fill the gaps. Some extra starts will be available for purchase, first-come first-serve if you wish to fill extra or larger baskets.

Bring garden gloves and clothes that you don&/ces/districts/deltajunction/8217;t mind getting a bit dirty. Cost: $25.
