The Tanana District is one of the largest Cooperative Extension Service districts in the United States, covering an area of more than 120,000 square miles. The population is approximately 100,000 and includes the Fairbanks North Star Borough and 64 villages with a mostly ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ Native population. Much of the district is inaccessible by road. The main economic drivers are mining, tourism, the University of ÃÛÌÒÓ°Ïñ, and the military.
The district offers outreach programs in agriculture and horticulture; health, home and family development; integrated pest management; nutrition; and 4-H and youth development.
